Green light promotion post mortem

Its been a crazy 72 hours! Since deciding to give Reprisal away for free to see if it could boost it’s Green Light campaign, it’s stats shot through the roof. Votes were up, plays were up and there was a real buzz.

Giving Reprisal away for free may have seemed like a crazy idea, I was nervous, but to be honest the Green Light promotion had stalled at 52% of the votes needed. Friday midday till Saturday midday seemed like a logical time to release it ready for the weekend. There was nothing really to loose and if anything I thought allowing a few hundred more players at it would be a nice thing to do.

Within an hour traffic was moving nicely, over 50 users online taking advantage of the promotion. ‘Yes’ votes were slowing climbing and had reached 58%. This was encouraging to see and I was thinking that it might shift about 500 downloads in 24 hours.

At the end of the day checking the stats, it was now sitting at 62%. Looking at the downloads this had reached 1000! Reddit appeared to be hitting it and some other gaming portals. over 200 users were online taking advantage of the promotion. The next morning this had jumped to 11000 downloads and the 'Yes’ votes were sitting around 69%.

Now at this point the Green Light page was starting to get some feedback. Mostly “Thank you” & “Great game” messages (which was encouraging) Maybe it’s because people don’t read anymore but in it’s description and through out it’s development, Reprisal has always been described as a Homage to Populous. Comments were coming through like …

“This is populous and a rip off”

One of the biggest lessons I think I will take from making this game is that you have to grown thick skin!

So the time came to end the promotion at 12:00pm (GMT) on Saturday. Looking at the stats they had jumped to 72% 'Yes’ votes, this had exceeded anything we could have wished for. Checking out some of the comments it looked like some players were having problems downloading the files which wasn’t surprising as the demand had gone beyond anything I’d thought it would. Answering some of these I decided to keep the promotion going a little longer.

At 7:00PM GMT I decided to call it a day.

Wrapping up

The Reprisal Green Light campaign has jumped from 52% to currently 85%. In total over 16100 copies of the game were downloaded in 31hours.

We have to say it’s been amazing and a real buzz. Reprisal still may never get Green Lit but it’s been a boost and encouragement for further games here at Last 17. Let’s hope it is though as it would be great to expand and get onto such an amazing platform.

Thank you for all your Support, we are super excited about our next offering Battle Keep. Keep an eye out!

Reprisal FREE download this Friday - 24th May

We have decided to release Reprisal for FREE for a limited 24 hour period. In this time you will be able to download the full and complete version of Reprisal for PC, Mac and Linux (beta).

The reason for this is to build up some momentum around the game and to actually allow you - the player - to have a go with it. Then, if after playing it you think it’s good and haven’t voted, please give it a vote!

If / When Reprisal get’s Green lit we will be adding some more features and islands. A huge massive thank you to all those that have voted so far and we hope you have fun playing the full version.

We will post up details on Reprisal’s Green Light page on how to download it at 12:00 GMT Friday 24th May - just in time for some weekend game play. Please spread the word or get an alert via twitter following @16bitsperpx
