This week has been the EGX show at London’s Earls Court. Reprisal Universe was shown as part of the Leftfield Collection and it was great to watch players and meet people.

A massive thanks to the EGX guys who put on a great show and also supporting Indie developers. There were some amazing titles on show so it was an honor to be rubbing shoulders with them :D

Been working on the Universe aspect of the game. Some 170+ islands will be there to explore, charting your progress across space.

Just to post a small update on Reprisal, things have been a bit quite here while working on the January Last 17 game jam (keep an eye out for Sausage Royale!)

Adding to this Reprisal’s Universe is not only providing a technical challenge, but also a design and artistic one. I started on an artistic direction  which I thought was awesome, only to find it eventually becoming limiting. I spent a frustrating few weeks trying to make it all work but in the end I have decided to scrap it and start again.

So where are things now?

The above screenshot is the new direction for the Universe’s navigation and it’s all clicking into place which is a weight lifting! I’ll follow up this post with more details outlining the plans. What you can see in the screenshot is the main display of planets (which can be dragged around) and then an overall mini star map overlaid. Each pixel in the mini star map symbolizes a planet. You will be able to navigate to planet’s within your range or influence which can be expanded by settling on new planets.

At the moment it looks like there will be in the region of over 130 planets combining some 800+ islands for everyone to explore :D

Pop-upView Separately

This month we are game jamming with a little idea we’ve had for a while. Hopefully will be able to bring you a little update on it in the next week or so.

It’s nice to have a step back for a break to take stock of Reprisal. In down time from the jam I’ve been noting a lot of ideas and what exactly the ’Universe’ will be … and become! Thinking over if you will need a network connection for this or not. Hmmm.
